Artists call off shows amid Nepal’s flood disaster

With significant loss of life and property following the flood in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi, an uneasy situation prevails across the country. More than 150 people have lost their lives, while hundreds of injured people are receiving treatment.

The government is engaged in rescue and relief efforts, with more than 800 people still reported out of contact. Amid this difficult situation, artists have been postponing entertainment and cultural events one after another.

Singer Prakash Dutraj had a program scheduled for Friday in his home district of Myagdi to announce a new musical group. The organiser, the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the event has now been postponed in light of the country’s situation.

Dutraj had planned to mark the occasion of Janai Purnima by announcing “Prakash Dutraj and Lineup” as the country’s first folk music band. In a statement, the chamber said that since this is a time to focus on humanitarian service and relief, Dutraj’s event has been postponed for now.

Singer Rachana Rimal, who had travelled to Australia for a musical program, announced on social media that she is postponing her previously scheduled shows. Citing the tragic situation back home, Rimal said her programs in various Australian cities, scheduled from August 28 to September 12, have been postponed until further notice.

New dates will be announced soon, she said. Rimal also shared that she has contributed Rs 100,000 to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Meanwhile, “Comedy Champion Season 4,” which had been preparing to hold its launch event today, Thursday, has also postponed its press conference announcement.
