Flood washes away diversion; Narayanghat–Butwal section completely blocked

NAWALPUR: The diversion road over the Binayi Khola near Arunkhola on the East-West Highway has been swept away by floodwaters, causing the closure of the temporary alternative route.

This route passed through the Hongshi Cement Factory gate via Sardi to reach Jyamire.

With the blockage of both the diversion and the alternative route, the entire Narayanghat–Butwal section of the East-West Highway is now completely obstructed, according to Nepal Police.

Just a day earlier, on Sunday, around 1,800 freight vehicles stranded on the road for six days had been sent to their destinations using the same route.

A night bus was swept away by floodwaters last Thursday while attempting to use the diversion route. Since then, vehicles had been rerouted through the temporary Hongshi-Sardi road.

The road project has announced that the new bridge at Dumkibas will be operational from Asar 16 (June 30), providing a permanent solution to the ongoing disruptions.
