Kavrepalanchok, October 30
The statement and custody hearing of Khagendra Sunar at the Kavrepalanchok District Court have concluded. The Kavrepalanchok District Court has ordered the release of Khagendra Sunar on bail.
According to court registrar Indira Karki, the bench of Judge Nagendra Kumar Kalakheti issued the order to release Sunar on a bail amount of Rs 50,000.
Sunar appeared before the court on Thursday morning after a warrant was issued against him on charges of contempt of court and verbal abuse of a lawyer, as well as for alleged offenses under the Electronic Transactions Act. The hearing was conducted before Judge Nagendra Kumar Kalakheti, according to court registrar Indira Karki.
A complaint had been filed at the Cyber Bureau accusing Sunar of using offensive language against advocate Manisha Gautam in a Facebook post and live video. Since Gautam is a permanent resident of Kavrepalanchok, the Bureau transferred the case to the Kavrepalanchok District Police Office.
During the investigation, police reported that Sunar had absconded, and the case was filed in court on July 18 (Shrawan 2, 2082) in his absence. The case, registered as 82 C1–002, was listed as a criminal case on behalf of the government.
Three days later, on July 21 (Shrawan 5), the district court issued an arrest warrant to the Dailekh District Police Office, where Sunar’s permanent address is registered.
According to registrar Karki, the court had issued the arrest warrant with a 7-day and 35-day validity period on that date.
Sunar’s name had been recommended for inclusion during the recent cabinet expansion, but it was removed at the last moment after details of various legal cases against him surfaced.
