Indian Idol winner Pawandeep Rajan seriously injured in car accident, receiving treatment

KATHMANDU: Indian Idol Season 12 winner Pawandeep Rajan was seriously injured in a car accident on Monday and is receiving treatment. He is receiving treatment at Fortis Hospital in Noida, as per Indian media, and is reported to be stable.

The accident occurred when Pawandeep and two of his friends were on their way from Uttarakhand to Delhi. His vehicle skidded and hit another vehicle parked on the roadside. Besides Pawandeep, two of his friends were also injured. After receiving initial treatment in Uttar Pradesh, all three were referred to Delhi for further medical care.

Pawandeep Rajan hails from Champawat district in Uttarakhand. According to his father, Suresh Rajan, Pawandeep was returning to Delhi after dropping off his mother at their home in Uttarakhand. He was accompanied by his driver Rahul Singh and friend Ajay Mehra.

At the time of the accident, Pawandeep was seated in the front passenger seat, while Ajay was in the back seat. The car reportedly went out of control and crashed into another vehicle because the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Pawandeep’s father stated that his son suffered fractures in both his hands and legs. He is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Eyewitness Mohammad Talib shared, “I run a roadside dhaba here. It was around 2:45 in the night. I was sleeping at the dhaba when I was awakened by a loud noise. I rushed to the accident site and saw a canter truck parked on the highway shoulder, which was carrying postal parcels. A car had crashed into it from behind. There were three people in the car—two in the front and one in the back. Their condition was very serious. We immediately called the police, who arrived at the scene and took all three injured individuals to the hospital. At that time, we didn’t know who they were. In the morning, we found out that the person in the car was Pawandeep Rajan.”
