Kathmandu, May 19
Dr Manoj Sharma’s name has been unanimously approved for the position of Chief Justice. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee, which met on Monday, approved his name.
The committee had conducted the hearing on Tuesday itself.
Following the conclusion of the hearing, the committee decided to approve Sharma’s name for Chief Justice.
On May 7, the Constitutional Council proposed Sharma as the Chief Justice. It was the first time in Nepal’s judicial history that a judge ranked fourth in seniority was recommended for Chief Justice, bypassing the most senior judges. The Constitutional Council passed over Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, as well as the two most senior judges, Kumar Regmi and Hari Phuyal, to recommend Sharma, who is fourth in the seniority order.
Sharma was appointed as a Supreme Court judge on April 19, 2019.
