Government’s reform package boosts stock market, NEPSE up 35 points in first hour

The government’s capital market reform action plan appeared to have a positive effect on the stock market Wednesday.

Within the first hour of trading, the NEPSE index rose by 35 points (1.39%), bringing it to 2,620. Within just the first minute of trading, the index had briefly touched 2,679 before settling somewhat.

Turnover also jumped sharply, Rs 3.44 billion in trades in just the first hour, compared to Rs 4.68 billion across the entire four-hour session the previous day.

All sub-indices rose in the first hour, with banking, development banks, finance, hotels and tourism, hydropower, investment, manufacturing and processing, non-life insurance, microfinance, and trading all up more than 1%.

Prices rose for 255 companies, fell for 15, and stayed flat for 6. Joshi Hydropower, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta, and Sindhu Bikas Bank posted gains of 4–6%, while Api Power, Shivam Cement, Reliance Spinning Mills, Liberty Energy, and Laxmi Sunrise Bank led in turnover.
