Recruitment agencies seek institutional labour access to 186 countries

The Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies has urged the government to add new labour destination countries for Nepali workers and allow institutional recruitment in more countries.

The association submitted a memorandum to Deepak Kafle, secretary at the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment, noting that Nepali workers have reached as many as 186 countries through individual arrangements, while the government has officially opened only 111 countries for institutional foreign employment.

Association General Secretary Hira Bahadur Dangi “Hari” said the government should identify promising and emerging labour markets among the countries where Nepalis are already working individually and establish mechanisms for sending workers there through recruitment agencies.

The association also urged the ministry to take diplomatic initiatives through Nepali missions to facilitate the verification of demand letters received from Sabah and Sarawak in eastern Malaysia.

It said the government should facilitate policy measures to explore new destinations and expand labour markets rather than relying solely on traditional destinations.

The association said policy reforms were underway to simplify procedures, including demand-letter verification, and stressed the need for active participation by recruitment agencies in promoting new labour markets.

It said expanding labour destinations would create additional employment opportunities for Nepali workers.

In recent years, Nepalis have increasingly sought employment in various European countries. However, institutional recruitment to those countries remains restricted.

Recruitment agencies have repeatedly called for demand-letter verification to allow institutional recruitment to European destinations, but the government has yet to facilitate the process.
