A meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives was postponed after Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel fell ill and was unable to attend.
The meeting had been scheduled for 8 am Tuesday at Singha Durbar, with lawmakers in attendance. However, the meeting was postponed after the committee was informed that the minister was unwell.
The meeting had been called to discuss the measures taken and being taken by the Ministry of Education and Sports regarding the human and physical damage caused by the Bhotekoshi floods, as well as rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.
The agenda also included discussions on problems and challenges encountered in the ministry’s work and the strategies it plans to adopt in the coming days. Minister Pokharel and the ministry secretary had both been invited to the meeting.
After the committee meeting began, Minister Pokharel informed the committee that he was unwell. As he was unable to attend, committee chair Dr Ojaswi Sherchan announced the postponement of the meeting.
The committee had sought information from the minister and secretary on the impact of the floods on educational infrastructure and academic activities, the condition of students and teachers, and the ministry’s ongoing relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.
