Kathmandu, April 3
Dol Prasad Aryal (DP Aryal), Vice Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party Nepal (RSP), has filed his nomination for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The proposal for his candidacy has been put forward by party chair and House member Rabi Lamichhane. The proposal is supported by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, Law Minister Sobita Gautam, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal.
The election for the Speaker is scheduled for Chaitra 22.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat had set the time for nomination registration from 11 am to 2 pm on Friday. The final list of candidates will be published at 2:30 pm.
During the House of Representatives meeting on Chaitra 22, a proposal will be presented to elect the Speaker, which will be endorsed by a proposer and seconders. After a collective discussion on the nomination notice, it will be tabled for decision.
A meeting of the RSP held on Thursday had decided to nominate Aryal for the Speaker’s post. With 182 seats in the 275-member House of Representatives, the party is close to a two-thirds majority, making Aryal’s election as Speaker almost certain.
At present, in the absence of a Speaker, the senior-most member of the House, Arjun Narsingh KC, has been chairing the meetings of the House of Representatives.
