Ruling parties push for policies to revive economy, inspire youth

KATHMANDU: At a meeting of ruling coalition parties held on Wednesday, leaders urged the government to introduce policies that further strengthen Nepal’s democratic republic, revitalize the economy, and offer hope to the younger generation.

Held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the meeting focused on ensuring that development projects are prioritized, timely, and efficient, with a strong emphasis on preventing misuse of resources. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Deputy General Secretary of CPN-UML, briefed the media after the meeting.

Gyawali said the parties called for integrated programs targeting youth through entrepreneurship, skill development, startups, business promotion, and market expansion. He added that recommendations were made to ruthlessly eliminate unnecessary structures and wasteful spending, improve governance and efficiency, and strengthen Nepal’s foreign relations.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had convened the meeting in preparation for the upcoming policy and program speech of the Government of Nepal, which will be presented by President Ram Chandra Paudel in both houses of the Federal Parliament on Baisakh 19 (May 2).

The meeting also emphasized responding collectively to attacks on the current political system, managing internal migration, and advancing agriculture and livestock programs focused on the hill regions. Leaders recommended that the forthcoming budget include major breakthroughs in these areas.

When asked by journalists, Gyawali expressed confidence that talks between the government and protesting teachers were progressing and would soon result in a conducive environment for resuming community school operations.
