Second round of talks between teachers and govt yields no deal

KATHMANDU: Discussions between the Nepal Teachers Federation and the government once again ended without a resolution. However, both parties described the talks as constructive and forward-moving.

Education, Science, and Technology Minister Raghuji Pant expressed optimism, stating that negotiations with the Teachers Federation are progressing positively. Speaking to journalists after Tuesday night’s meeting at the Ministry, he said efforts are ongoing to reach a final settlement soon.

He added that the teachers’ representatives participated in the talks with a cooperative mindset. Tuesday’s meeting, held from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM, also saw the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, along with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

The teachers’ delegation, led by Federation President Laxmi Kishor Subedi, returned for a second round of dialogue on Tuesday, following what both sides had described as a positive round of talks on Monday.

The Federation has been staging protests in Kathmandu, pressing for a series of demands. This ongoing movement has led to the disruption of academic activities in community schools across the country since the start of the 2082 BS academic session.
